NEUROMUSCULAR TAPING
NeuroMuscular Taping methodology is a non-stretched tape applied over the skin in an extended position resulting in a decompressive taping definition. It is a biomechanical therapy using decompressive and compressive stimuli to obtain positive effects in the musculoskeletal, vascular, lymphatic, and neurological systems.
The term NMT refers to a specific decompressive taping application technique which originated in the early 2000โs in Italy by David Blow.
Thisย NMT taping system is characterized by resulting skin wrinkling, skin folds or skin undulations. Also this taping application creates various types of skin, muscle, joint, sensory, vascular and tactile stimulation under study over the last decade.
As the tape applied in a particular way form wrinkles by lifting the skin, they facilitate venous and lymphatic drainage, improve blood circulation and relieve pain.
A correct application will also assist in correct alignment of joints, support muscles during movement, and improve stability and posture.
I find NMT a useful tool in terms to add to my treatments, increasing the outcomes and reducing the time of rehabilitation, but what stands out to me is the fast decrease of pain.
I have worked with NMT for years, being part of the Institute and traveling the world organizing volunteering projects in third-world-countries, where health resources are scarce. I was amazed by such a simple tool with the right methodology being able to change people lives. Thatโs why I love to use it with my clients when the protocol allows it.
